musical history Lena Rose was not always comfortable singing her heart out in front of audiences growing larger by the year. When asked what started it all, her response is a keyboard. A keyboard that opened her up to sounds and music, writing and performing. Of course she was only six years old, and her songs were nothing more than babble, her music only noise, and her performances only for her family. But that keyboard, and the spirit it embodied, stayed with her as she grew up. Her father was a musician, a rock star technically, with his band Nuclear Family, and he encouraged his children to find their instrument and express themselves through music. Lena discovered hers through the keyboard and singing. In middle school she started a cover band with a friend, but that was short lived. It was high school that truly brought out her musical ability. Lena could sing, it was writing and audiences that scared her. She joined the drama club her freshman year in high school and met the person who would change her life, a first boyfriend, but more importantly a writing partner.
Lena found that making music was infectious, and picked up playing the guitar as well as taking voice lessons to improve her range. New friends were made and another band was started, but this time with some actual drive behind it. The band, named Meridian after the street she grew up on, got a small following and weekends were spent traveling to anywhere that would give them a set. Her earliest shows were shaky at best and the audience was small, only friends and family. As Lena got more confident onstage, the performances became significantly better and the venues got bigger. She was still a teenager when they were scouted and got their big break in 2005. They began recording immediately, putting out their first album a few months later and played several dates on the Warped Tour circuit. Meridian toured like it was going out of style in support of their sophomore record, determined to make a name for themselves. Efforts paid off as they went platinum and earned a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist. They also contributed two songs to the Twilight soundtrack, which opened the eyes of a whole new audience. Following rumors of a breakup, their third studio album, and arguably their best, was released in 2009. Outside of her work with Meridian, Lena Rose recorded a song as a solo act for the Jennifer's Body soundtrack the same year. She has also recorded with various artists as a guest singer.
random facts
When she wasn't writing or performing music, she was listening to it. Lena spent many nights sneaking out of her parents house and sneaking into various clubs to watch her favorite bands. Her social life revolved completely around music. Almost all of her favorite memories from school involve a show and a neverending order of french fries at Dennys. Not much has changed from those days, aside from the fact that she no longer has to sneak out to watch her favorite music.
Though her own music has been classified everywhere from alternative rock to emo to pop, her musical interests expand beyond that into classic rock, hip hop, pop, jazz, latin, and classical music.
Through the whole ride, rumors of the band breaking up, and rumors of various boyfriends, she has stayed very grounded and still gets excited every time she watches any of her favorite artists take the stage, and slightly nervous when she takes it herself.
She currently resides in LA, having come back from a lot of touring the past two years.
When vegging at home, she is a huge fan of HGTV and Project Runway.
Lena's favorite movie of all time is the Goonies, and her favorite series is True Blood. And while she can't exactly be classified as a movie buff, she'll watch almost anything once. Time on the tour bus is typically spent attempting to write, or watching movies.
She finished high school right as her band took off, so she never attended college, though it hasn't been completely ruled out for the future.
Currently there is only one love in her life, her min pin Beefy.
